NABC Continues Expansion in Latin America

Brazil, as a result of its decades old energy policy model shifting towards ethanol production is considered by many to have the world's first sustainable biofuels economy and is certainly a leader in the worldwide biofuels industry.  Together, Brazil and the United States lead the industrial production of fuel ethanol, accounting together for 89% of the world's production in 2008.

Although NABC has marketed its products successfully from the United States to Latin America, primarily in Colombia and Argentina, our focus now is to establish regional offices in Latin America with a base of operation near Sao Paulo, Brazil.  This new office and warehouse will provide a springboard to offer competitive products and market solutions to the Brazilian market and beyond.

"Our initial focus has been the testing and development of our products in the sugar cane process, we are optimistic about our ability to provide new options and alternatives for the Brazilian ethanol producer and beyond" - says Jaime Carreno, NABC's newly appointed Latin America Market Manager.

NABC Files FAP

It is NABC’s endeavor to promote the responsible use of antimicrobials as well as educate its customers on vital regulatory issues that may affect them. NABC markets four antibiotics for fuel ethanol production: Bactenix® V60, Bactenix® V60SP, Bactenix® V300, and Bactenix® V300SP. These antibiotics are manufactured under Veterinary Master File (VMF) protocols set by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the manufacture of such ingredients.

The FDA considers distillers co-products that are sold for direct feeding to animals a “Feed Ingredient” and all ingredients entering the ethanol production process that may potentially result in the finished co-product a “Food Additive”. Regarding food additives, the FDA States: “Any substance intentionally added to an animal feed, including pet food, must be used in accordance with a food additive regulation unless it is Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) among qualified experts for its intended use.”

NABC has been working diligently with the FDA and the Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM) Food Additive Petition (FAP) for our antibiotics as a processing aid in the manufacturing of fuel ethanol. NABC has completed the pre-submission protocol for the FAP for Bactenix® V60, Bactenix® V60SP, Bactenix® V300, and Bactenix® V300SP with the FDA/CVM. Currently, NABC is putting together all testing and concerned documents for the FAP for Bactenix® V300 and Bactenix® V300SP.

NABC has been assiduously working to provide the necessary information as required by the FDA/CVM to obtain a food additive status for these antibiotics. All our testing has been favorable and is expected to meet FDA/CVM requirements.
